Members of the National Ambulance Service represented by SIPTU have voted decisively in favour of industrial action, escalating tensions within the healthcare sector.
The vote, which saw around 2,000 members supporting measures up to and including strike action, underscores significant dissatisfaction over unresolved issues. The decision reflects ongoing concerns among ambulance staff regarding working conditions and operational resources.
This move follows a series of negotiations that have yet to yield a satisfactory agreement for the workers, many of whom are expressing frustration over what they describe as inadequate support and recognition from the authorities. The potential for strike action adds pressure on the healthcare system, which is already grappling with various challenges.
The union has indicated that while a strike is on the table, it remains hopeful that further discussions could avert the need for such drastic measures. The situation remains fluid as both sides prepare for possible negotiations in the coming days.
