Over a hundred organisations across Ireland have jointly appealed to the government, emphasising the urgent need to sustain and enhance support systems for Ukrainian refugees with disabilities. In a letter addressed to the Taoiseach, these groups outlined the critical importance of maintaining current accommodation and social welfare provisions.
The organisations, which operate at both community and national levels, argue that the existing support is vital for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of one of the most vulnerable groups affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. They stress that any reduction in assistance could severely impact the quality of life for these refugees.
With the war in Ukraine showing little sign of abating, the letter underscores the moral and humanitarian obligation Ireland holds in upholding its commitment to those fleeing war, particularly individuals with disabilities who face compounded challenges in displacement.
