Limited Rental Options Under Housing Assistance Scheme in June

Recent findings reveal a critical shortage of rental properties available under the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme. In June, only 20 properties across Ireland met the criteria, underscoring the challenges faced by those relying on this support.

The quarterly report from Simon Communities of Ireland demonstrates a concerning trend in the availability of affordable rental accommodation. This scarcity exacerbates the housing crisis, leaving many vulnerable individuals and families with limited options.

HAP is designed to assist low-income households in securing rental accommodation by supplementing rent payments. However, the current market conditions are proving challenging for recipients, as the supply of qualifying properties remains significantly constrained.

The report calls attention to the need for increased investment in affordable housing solutions and policy adjustments to address the growing demand. Without these measures, many may continue to struggle to find suitable housing within the HAP limits.
