Ibec, a prominent business group, has expressed concerns regarding proposed amendments to the EU Cybersecurity Act. The organisation warns that these changes could lead to significant disruptions across multiple sectors in Ireland.
The proposed revisions aim to bolster cybersecurity measures but could inadvertently destabilise 18 critical industries, according to Ibec. The group highlights that the telecommunications sector alone might face an additional cost of €730 million due to these regulatory modifications.
Ibec’s warning underscores the potential economic impact of heightened cybersecurity requirements, suggesting that the financial burden could extend beyond telecommunications, affecting a broad array of industries reliant on robust digital infrastructure.
As discussions on the EU Cybersecurity Act continue, stakeholders are urged to consider the balance between enhanced security and economic viability, ensuring that new regulations do not hinder the competitiveness of Irish businesses.
