A new survey has brought to light an increase in misinformation about autism, indicating that misconceptions continue to proliferate even as awareness and knowledge about the condition grow.
Conducted by the advocacy group AsIAm, the survey shows a concerning trend where despite significant strides in raising awareness, false information and stereotypes about autism persist. This highlights a gap between awareness campaigns and the accurate understanding of autism within society.
The findings suggest that while more people are aware of autism, the quality of information they receive may not always be accurate. This underscores the need for ongoing education and information campaigns that not only raise awareness but also ensure the dissemination of factual, reliable information.
AsIAm has called for renewed efforts to tackle misinformation, emphasizing the importance of supporting individuals with autism through informed community engagement and education.
