National Ambulance Service Strike Persists Through Night

A 24-hour strike by members of SIPTU and Unite within the National Ambulance Service has persisted throughout the night, causing significant disruption in emergency medical services. The industrial action is scheduled to conclude at 8am, as workers protest over unresolved issues.

The strike, which began yesterday morning, has seen ambulance workers withdraw their services, impacting response times and the availability of emergency medical assistance. The action is part of an ongoing dispute over working conditions and pay, with unions seeking improvements that they argue are long overdue.

Health service management has urged the public to be cautious and to only call for ambulances in life-threatening situations during the strike period. Contingency plans have been put in place to ensure that critical cases are prioritised, but delays are anticipated until normal service resumes.

Negotiations between union representatives and health authorities have yet to yield a resolution, though talks are expected to continue following the conclusion of the strike. The unions have expressed their willingness to engage in discussions aimed at reaching a satisfactory agreement.
