RTÉ DG Justifies Tender for Toy Show Appeal Services

RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst has addressed concerns regarding the broadcaster’s decision to seek external expertise for the Toy Show Appeal. In a recent communication to staff, Bakhurst explained the need for “philanthropy advice and grant distribution services” as part of efforts to enhance the appeal’s effectiveness.

The Toy Show Appeal, a significant charitable initiative associated with the annual Late Late Toy Show, aims to support children and families across Ireland. Bakhurst highlighted that the decision to issue a tender was made to ensure that the funds raised are managed and distributed with the highest level of expertise and transparency.

The move has prompted discussions within the organization, with some expressing surprise at the necessity for external involvement. However, Bakhurst reassured staff that the goal is to maximize the impact of the appeal, ultimately benefiting those it is designed to help.

This strategic decision underscores RTÉ’s commitment to leveraging professional guidance in philanthropic efforts, ensuring that the Toy Show Appeal continues to deliver substantial support to communities in need.
