Survey Reveals Gender Disparities in Cycling Habits Across Ireland

Recent findings indicate a notable divide between men and women when it comes to cycling in Ireland. According to a survey commissioned by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), women are significantly less likely to cycle compared to their male counterparts.

The survey, which gathered insights from 1,000 women, points to a combination of factors contributing to this disparity. Foremost among these are concerns about road safety and the aggressive behaviour of drivers, both of which deter many women from choosing cycling as a mode of transport.

Additionally, the survey highlights how family responsibilities can further limit the ability of women to cycle regularly. These factors combined create a challenging environment for women who might otherwise consider cycling.

Efforts to address these issues could involve improving road safety measures and promoting a more inclusive cycling culture, potentially encouraging more women to take up cycling as a practical and sustainable option.
