Pope Leo XIV has blessed a newly completed tower at the iconic Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona, elevating the landmark to the status of the world’s tallest church. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the basilica, which has been under construction for over a century.
The event was celebrated with a mass conducted inside the basilica, followed by a spectacular fireworks display and a light show that illuminated the night sky. These festivities underscored the importance of the occasion, drawing attention from locals and visitors alike.
The new tower, an architectural marvel, adds to the grandeur of the Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage site designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. This development not only enhances the basilica’s global standing but also fulfills part of Gaudí’s original vision for the structure.
As Barcelona continues to draw millions of tourists each year, the completion of the tower is expected to further boost interest in the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
