Transport Minister Engages with Hauliers Over Rising Fuel Costs

The ongoing crisis in Iran has led to a significant increase in fuel prices, prompting urgent discussions between the Minister for Transport and the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA). Hauliers are expressing concerns over the financial strain caused by soaring costs at the pump.

During the meeting, the IRHA highlighted the severe impact of the fuel price surge on their operations, describing the situation as approaching a ‘national emergency’. The association is calling for additional government supports to mitigate the financial burden on the industry.

The Transport Minister acknowledged the difficulties faced by hauliers and assured that the government is exploring ways to address the issue. The need for effective measures is underscored by the potential ripple effects on the broader economy, should the transport sector struggle to sustain its operations.

As fuel prices continue to climb, the discussions underscore the critical need for a strategic response to stabilise the situation and support the vital role of hauliers in Ireland’s supply chain.
