The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has voiced significant concerns regarding the future viability of teaching as a profession. At their recent conference, members highlighted several pressing issues that are contributing to a decline in the attractiveness and sustainability of teaching careers.
Among the primary concerns raised were inadequate salaries and increasing workloads, which are making it difficult for educators to maintain a balanced professional and personal life. This, in turn, is driving many teachers to reconsider their career paths or leave the profession altogether.
Furthermore, the TUI pointed out that the lack of resources and support in schools is exacerbating the situation. This environment of strain and underfunding is not only impacting current educators but also discouraging potential new entrants from considering teaching as a viable career option.
The union is calling for urgent action to address these issues, emphasizing that without significant improvements, the future of education in Ireland could face serious challenges.
