Concerns Raised Over Proposed Closure of Dublin CAMHS Unit

The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) has expressed significant concerns regarding a proposal by the Health Service Executive (HSE) to close a 10-bed Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) unit in Dublin. The PNA is calling for an immediate pause on the proposal, highlighting the potential impact on mental health services for young people.

The Dublin-based unit plays a critical role in providing mental health support to children and adolescents, offering specialised care in a dedicated environment. The PNA argues that the closure of this facility could lead to increased pressure on already strained mental health services and longer waiting times for young patients in need of care.

As the demand for mental health services continues to rise, the association stresses the importance of maintaining, if not expanding, current resources. The PNA is urging stakeholders to consider the broader implications of such closures on the health and well-being of vulnerable youth in the community.

The HSE has yet to respond to these concerns, and further discussions are anticipated as the PNA seeks to engage with the health authority to explore alternative solutions to support young people’s mental health needs effectively.
