In a bid to address the growing issue of property vacancy and dereliction, five additional towns have been incorporated into a national tax relief scheme. The initiative aims to rejuvenate urban areas by encouraging the refurbishment and reoccupation of vacant properties.
Drogheda and Dundalk are notable inclusions in this expansion, joining the ranks of towns eligible for the scheme’s benefits. The programme provides tax incentives for property owners who invest in the renovation and reuse of empty buildings, thereby stimulating local economies and improving urban aesthetics.
This latest move reflects ongoing efforts to tackle the challenges posed by unused properties, which can detract from community vibrancy and economic potential. By increasing the number of participating towns, the scheme seeks to further reduce vacancy rates and promote sustainable urban development.
The initiative has been met with positive responses from local authorities and stakeholders, who see it as a crucial step in revitalising town centres and supporting wider regional growth.
