A 55-year-old man has been sentenced for dangerous driving that led to the death of a mother-of-two in County Kildare. The incident occurred when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a fatal collision.
The court heard that the man’s van crossed over to the wrong side of the road, striking the victim’s car and causing her instant death. During the trial, the driver expressed remorse and apologised to the victim’s family, acknowledging the profound impact of his actions.
The judge, in delivering the sentence, took into account the driver’s apology and his previously clean driving record. However, the severity of the incident and its tragic outcome necessitated a custodial sentence to reflect the seriousness of dangerous driving offences.
Family members of the deceased attended the hearing, expressing their grief and loss. The case has highlighted the devastating consequences of road traffic violations and the need for vigilance behind the wheel.
