Minister for Communications Patrick O’Donovan has admitted to mishandling his request for a review of media coverage regarding last week’s fuel protests. The minister confessed he ‘made a hames’ of his initial approach.
O’Donovan sought a review from Coimisiún na Meán, the media regulator, aiming to assess how the protests were reported. However, he acknowledged that his intentions were not clearly conveyed, leading to misunderstandings.
The request came after public demonstrations over rising fuel costs, which garnered significant media attention. The minister clarified that his goal was to ensure balanced reporting but admitted to miscommunicating his message.
O’Donovan’s admission highlights the complexities involved in managing media relations amidst sensitive public issues, underscoring the importance of clear communication from government officials.
