The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has raised the issue, suggesting that the Garda Commissioner might need to designate the event as an exceptional policing operation.
This designation would acknowledge the extraordinary requirements of policing such a high-profile international event, which involves heightened security and increased demands on the police force. The GRA argues that without additional resources, the ability to effectively police the event could be compromised.
The EU Presidency, a rotating leadership role among EU member states, brings with it numerous diplomatic events and visits from international dignitaries, all necessitating a robust security presence.
