The introduction of modular homes as a solution to housing shortages has sparked controversy, with Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns cautioning that the plan could leave renters vulnerable. Cairns argues that the move might exacerbate the existing challenges faced by renters in an already strained housing market.
According to Cairns, the Government’s proposal to use modular homes does not adequately address the root issues of the housing crisis. Instead, she warns it could result in renters being “thrown to the wolves,” as the plan lacks comprehensive measures to protect their interests.
The Government, however, maintains that modular homes are a practical and swift response to the urgent need for housing. They argue that these homes can be deployed quickly and efficiently, providing immediate relief to those in need.
Amidst these differing views, the debate continues over how best to balance immediate housing solutions with long-term stability for renters in Ireland.
