US Urges Myanmar to Free Suu Kyi Amid House Arrest Decision

The United States has issued a strong appeal for Myanmar to release Aung San Suu Kyi, the deposed leader who has been detained since a military coup in 2021. This call comes as the military government announced plans to transfer her to house arrest.

Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel laureate and a symbol of democratic resistance in Myanmar, has faced numerous charges since her detention, which rights groups have widely condemned as politically motivated. Her continued imprisonment has drawn international criticism and calls for her release.

The junta’s decision to move Suu Kyi to house arrest marks a significant shift in her detention status. However, the US and other Western nations continue to pressure Myanmar for her unconditional release and the restoration of democratic governance.

Myanmar has been under military rule since the coup, which has led to widespread unrest and economic challenges. The international community remains focused on supporting the return to civilian rule and the protection of human rights in the country.
