The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has imposed a fine of €277,500 on Permanent TSB (PTSB) due to multiple personal data breaches. The breaches were initially reported in May 2022, prompting an investigation by the regulatory body.
The DPC’s investigation uncovered several instances where PTSB failed to adequately protect customers’ personal information. These lapses in data management were deemed significant enough to warrant the substantial financial penalty.
As part of its findings, the DPC highlighted the importance of robust data protection measures and compliance with data protection laws to ensure customer trust and security.
PTSB is expected to take immediate remedial action to prevent future breaches and enhance its data protection protocols, aligning with the DPC’s recommendations.
