FSAI Advises Against Slushies with Glycerol for Under-10s

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a new advisory concerning the consumption of slush ice drinks by young children. The advisory specifically targets products containing glycerol, a common ingredient in these popular beverages.

According to the FSAI, children aged 10 and under should not consume slushies containing glycerol. This recommendation is based on concerns about possible side effects that could arise from such consumption in young age groups.

Glycerol, used for its sweetening and thickening properties, is generally considered safe for adults. However, its effects on younger children have prompted caution due to potential health risks that may not be immediately apparent.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to check labels for glycerol content and choose alternatives that do not contain this additive for their children. The FSAI remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers, particularly vulnerable groups such as young children.
