Survivors Call for Inclusive Redress Schemes

Survivors of institutional abuse in Ireland have voiced strong criticism against the Government, urging an end to what they describe as a ‘pattern of exclusion’ in State redress schemes. Their calls for reform come amid ongoing discussions about how best to address past injustices.

These survivors argue that the current redress schemes do not adequately address the breadth of experiences endured by victims of institutional abuse. Many feel that the criteria for compensation are too narrow, leaving out numerous individuals who suffered significant trauma.

The Government, while having established several redress initiatives, is being urged to reevaluate these programs to ensure they are more inclusive and equitable. Survivors emphasise the importance of acknowledging all forms of abuse and ensuring that everyone affected receives appropriate support.

As the debate continues, survivors hope for a comprehensive review that will lead to a more just and inclusive approach, rectifying the shortcomings of past efforts and ensuring that no victim is left without recognition and restitution.
