The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has emphasised the necessity of linking any forthcoming public sector pay agreements to inflation rates. This call comes amid ongoing negotiations between the government and trade unions.
ICTU’s Public Services Committee Chair has stressed that aligning pay increases with inflation is vital to safeguard workers’ living standards. The demand aims to ensure that employees do not experience a decline in real income as prices continue to rise.
Negotiations are underway, and while no agreement has been reached yet, the trade unions remain firm on their stance. They argue that without such a link, workers may face financial strain as the cost of living escalates.
