The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has expressed concern over calls to boycott the upcoming Nations League matches against Israel. In a recent letter to General Assembly members, the FAI stated that such a move could inflict ‘significant and lasting harm’ on the sport within the country.
The warning comes ahead of the FAI’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for 8 July. The association emphasised the potential repercussions of a boycott, highlighting the importance of maintaining international sporting relations and the potential financial and reputational damage involved.
While the call for a boycott has garnered some support, the FAI is urging members to consider the broader implications for Irish football. The association is advocating for continued engagement in the Nations League, stressing that participation is crucial for the sport’s development and international standing.
