Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has successfully acquired a portion of a significant site on O’Connell Street, facilitating the advancement of the long-anticipated MetroLink project in Dublin.
The acquisition involves part of the Hammerson site, a strategic move to ensure space for the underground transport system aimed at easing congestion and improving public transport in the capital. This development marks a tangible step forward for the project, which has been in planning stages for several years.
The MetroLink is envisioned as a high-capacity, high-frequency rail service, designed to connect key areas of Dublin, including the city centre, the airport, and surrounding suburbs. The project is expected to significantly enhance the city’s public transport infrastructure, offering faster and more efficient travel options for commuters.
As the MetroLink project progresses, further acquisitions and developments may be expected, with TII committed to keeping stakeholders informed on the timeline and impact of construction activities in the heart of Dublin.
