The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) experienced a busy night, receiving a total of 303 emergency calls during the Eleventh Night celebrations. This annual event, particularly prominent in unionist areas, involves the lighting of bonfires, which often leads to increased demand for emergency services.
The Eleventh Night, a significant date in the unionist calendar, precedes the Twelfth of July celebrations commemorating the Battle of the Boyne. The bonfires, while a tradition, pose considerable safety challenges, resulting in a heightened need for fire service intervention.
NIFRS reported an exceptionally high volume of calls, reflecting the potential dangers associated with the festivities. Despite the challenges, the service managed to respond effectively to the incidents, ensuring public safety during one of the year’s busiest nights.
