The Mental Health Commission (MHC) has announced the commencement of a public consultation process aimed at developing new standards for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Ireland. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality and efficacy of mental health services for young people.
Over the next six weeks, individuals and organisations are invited to participate in the consultation, providing their insights and suggestions on how CAMHS can be improved. The MHC aims to gather a wide range of perspectives to ensure that the new standards reflect the needs and expectations of the community.
The move to revise standards comes amidst ongoing discussions about the adequacy of current mental health services for children and adolescents. Stakeholders have expressed concerns about access, quality, and consistency of care, and the MHC’s consultation seeks to address these issues comprehensively.
Once the consultation period concludes, the MHC will review the feedback and work towards implementing standards that will guide and improve CAMHS delivery across the country. This process underscores the commitment to fostering a robust mental health support system for young people in Ireland.
