An inquest held in Co Kerry has brought to light the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of a 22-year-old rally driver, who perished when his car flipped into a flooded stream over four years ago.
The incident occurred during a rally event, where the young driver lost control, resulting in the vehicle overturning and becoming submerged. Despite swift intervention, the efforts to rescue the driver were ultimately in vain, highlighting the dangers associated with the sport.
The hearing detailed the immediate response by fellow competitors and emergency services, who worked tirelessly to extricate the driver from the submerged vehicle. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the driver could not be revived.
