Five years have passed since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, a period marked by significant international concern over the human rights situation, particularly regarding women and girls. The Taliban’s return to power has led to widespread reports of discrimination and exclusion.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Helen McEntee, highlighted the ongoing plight of Afghan women and girls. She noted that they have faced an alarming campaign of violence and abuse, which has drawn condemnation from global leaders and human rights organizations.
Despite initial promises of a more moderate regime, the Taliban’s policies have largely rolled back the rights of women, limiting their access to education and employment. Many fear that the situation will continue to deteriorate if the international community does not intervene.
As Afghanistan marks this somber milestone, the world watches closely, urging the Taliban to uphold basic human rights and calling for renewed efforts to support those most affected by the regime’s policies.
