Government leaders have expressed strong disapproval of the ongoing blockade at a fuel depot in County Cork, which has significantly impacted Ireland’s fuel supply. The protest, organised by a group demanding policy changes, has resulted in nearly 50% of the nation’s fuel being inaccessible.
Fuels For Ireland, the representative body for the industry, has reported that both terminals and the refinery at Whitegate are currently unable to distribute resources due to the blockade. This situation has raised concerns about potential fuel shortages if the protest continues.
The government has called for an immediate resolution to the blockade, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a steady fuel supply for the country. Officials are urging protesters to engage in dialogue rather than disrupt essential services.
As the blockade persists, there is growing pressure on authorities and protest organizers to find a compromise that addresses the demonstrators’ concerns without compromising national fuel distribution.
