A tribunal has upheld the dismissal of a senior flight attendant from Aer Lingus, following a contentious incident involving a passenger onboard. The decision comes after reports of the attendant allegedly refusing a passenger access to the bathroom, resulting in the passenger becoming visibly upset.
The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) reviewed the case, which included testimonies from colleagues who witnessed the event. The tribunal concluded that the actions of the flight attendant were inappropriate and justified the airline’s decision to terminate his employment.
The incident reportedly took place during a flight, where the attendant’s refusal to allow bathroom access led to significant distress for the passenger. Colleagues of the attendant corroborated the claims made against him, leading to a thorough investigation by the airline.
The outcome of the tribunal reinforces the importance of maintaining professional conduct in customer-facing roles, particularly in the airline industry where passenger safety and comfort are paramount.
