Perfusionists across Ireland have suspended their industrial action after successfully negotiating a pay agreement with the Health Service Executive (HSE). This development brings a temporary halt to disruptions in cardiac surgeries across the country.
The industrial action, led by members of the Fórsa trade union, began due to disputes over pay discrepancies. Perfusionists, who play a critical role in operating heart-lung machines during surgeries, had raised concerns about their compensation not reflecting the complexity and importance of their work.
Following negotiations, an agreement has been reached that addresses the pay concerns raised by the perfusionists. This agreement has led to the suspension of strike actions, allowing medical procedures to resume without further delays.
The Fórsa trade union expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the importance of recognising the contribution of perfusionists to the healthcare system. The HSE has also acknowledged the agreement, highlighting its commitment to maintaining a functional and effective healthcare workforce.
