Members of Ireland’s largest trade union, SIPTU, have cast a decisive vote in favour of industrial action within the public sector, signalling potential strikes due to unresolved pay disputes.
The overwhelming support for action reflects growing dissatisfaction among workers regarding current pay conditions. The ballot, which saw significant participation, demonstrates a strong mandate for the union to proceed with measures aimed at addressing members’ concerns over remuneration.
SIPTU’s decision comes amid ongoing discussions with government representatives, as efforts to reach a satisfactory agreement on pay have thus far been unsuccessful. The union has indicated that while they remain open to negotiations, the possibility of strike action looms if an acceptable resolution is not reached.
